Gary Shaw Sharing His Promotion
And He Is Happy To Do So
"It's The Way It Should Be"

By William Trillo

Last week I got in touch with Goossen Tutor promoter Dan Goossen to ask him about the June 7th card featuring his fighter Paul Williams vs. Carlos Quintana & Vernon Forrest vs. Sergio Mora. Goossen referred me over to Gary Shaw saying it was Shaw's promotion.

I contacted Gary Shaw and although he was happy to discuss the Showtime televised card he made it clear, "I don't like to look at this as "my" show. This is in conjunction with Lou DiBella, The Tournament of Contenders, Goossen as well as Al Haymon. This is people working together, it's the way it should be."

In what amounts to a very high profile card, Shaw was more than willing to let it be known that this was a team effort. After a start of the year where promoters seemed to be taking shots at one another at every turn, it is refreshing to see this effort to work together, with boxing's best interests in mind.

The card is set for June, but according to Shaw a venue was not in place yet. Talks of the fight being held from everywhere from Los Angeles to Texas have been discussed, but as of yet no venue had been secured. Both Shaw and Goossen promised an announcement could come as early as this week.

The card is going head up with an HBO fight card but Shaw made it clear, "Showtime has a fight the first of every month and this was the date we chose, it has nothing to do with the other card."

2008 has started out with a bang for boxing but too many times the pre and post fight bickering amongst promoters has tainted a very exciting fight year. It's great to see the promoters working together for this show and we hope it's a sign of things to come.
