Bradley
Wants To Fight Hatton Next
The newly crowned WBC super lightweight champion, Timothy “The Desert Storm” Bradley was a guest of honor at the celebratory luncheon hosted by his promoter Ken Thompson at the Palm restaurant in downtown, Los Angeles.
Emotional Bradley thanked the media, his team, including his two promoters Ken Thompson and Gary Shaw, his new manager Lee Bates, his dad and his match maker Alex Componovo and stated that even though no one has given him a chance, he has fulfilled his childhood dream of becoming a champion and owning a green belt of WBC. Timothy said that he would sleep with this belt if he could. Bradley said that some people think he just got lucky, but he is here to stay and attributed his success to all the hard work that he puts in the gym and invited everyone to watch him train. He trains at the Indio boxing Boys and Girls club and does weight training at the Gold’s Gym and does his road work outside.
Timothy told the media that after his fight with Castillo fell through and he became a mandatory challenger, he wanted that belt so he called the champ, since his fight did not take place as well, and asked him for a chance and got it. About three weeks into his training camp Timothy knew he was going to win the fight. After watching the video and studying Witter for a while he found his weakness and got very excited and woke up his girlfriend at 1:30 in the morning and told her “Baby, I know how I am going to win this fight.” She yawned and said “Is that why you woke me up?”
What he saw was that Witter pulls back with his chin up. Bradley was able to capitalize on that mistake at the end of the 6th round; he timed Junior pulling back and landed an overhand right that floored and hurt his opponent. That one punch changed the complexion of the whole fight and put Bradley on the attack and made Witter defensive and hesitant to pull the trigger, which ultimately resulted in a split decision victory for the California native.
Timothy knew last year that his career was reaching a new level, so he hired a manager Lee Bates to handle his affairs so it would be more like a business instead of using his dad and his match maker. Lee spoke briefly and expressed gratitude to his new charge and vision for great things to come.
Bradley wants to bring his fights back home and hopefully fight at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, where his fans could root for a new champion and when asked who he would like to have as his next opponent, he did not hesitate and exclaimed “ Ricky Hatton”. Some might think it is a tall order to challenge a fighter who is in The Ring top ten pound for pound list, but Timothy is confident in his abilities and wouldn’t it be ironic that after beating a fighter avoided by Ricky for years he would get to face him next.
Bradley is a great young champion with all the skills; he is fast, agile with superb conditioning and he knows his way around the ring. His favorite fighter of all times is Marvin Hagler and he emulates his resolve, hard work ethic and tenacity in the ring.
Congratulations to the newly crowned champ and his team and we are anxious to see what the future will bring. |
